NEW KNOXVILLE 47, FORT RECOVERY 32
COLDWATER — When shots aren’t falling, the New Knoxville girls basketball team has a pretty good safety net in a defense that shuts down opponents and a player like Haley Horstman who can create quality shots off the dribble.
Far from an offensive masterpiece, the Rangers team again showed they’re more than capable of winning a low-scoring affair to capture a Division IV sectional title with a 47-32 win over Fort Recovery on Saturday night.
LIMA — The St. Marys girls bowling team finished as the district runner-up and will compete at the OHSAA state bowling championships this weekend in Columbus while senior Kristen Dammeyer was the top bowler with a 608 series.

CANTON — Jared Deubler finished off his record-setting swimming career at St. Marys Memorial with a 14th-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke at the Division II state swimming championships on Friday.
Deubler, who advanced to the B Final after finishing 10th in the preliminaries on Thursday night at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, turned in a 55.06-second time on Friday — about seven-tenths of a second off his time in the prelims.
VAN WERT — St. Marys junior center Quinn Zaerr controlled everything inside the paint on Friday as he put up 28 points and 11 rebounds, but Van Wert padlocked the perimeter defensively in its 60-51 victory over the Roughriders in the Western Buckeye League and regular season finale.
Zaerr’s career night wasn’t enough to keep up with an energized Van Wert team that spit fire after losing back-to-back games last weekend to Wapakoneta and Delphos Jefferson.
