NEW KNOXVILLE — The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man in the New Knoxville area.
Sheriff Al Solomon released details this morning concerning an investigation into the cause of death for a male subject found in a creek north of New Knoxville. At approximately 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office received a call from someone who had located a vehicle and a body in the creek located approximately a quarter mile north of the end of Industrial Park Drive in New Knoxville.
The area is surrounded by agricultural fields and is heavily wooded. The caller located the vehicle and body while walking in that area. Deputies and detectives from the sheriff’s office responded, along with agents from BCI&I Crime Scene Unit and the Auglaize County Coroner’s Office. They were later assisted by the New Knoxville Fire Department. The body was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
The identity of the victim has not been confirmed. It is believed the victim is that of a missing Indiana man who was reported missing in September and had a history of suicide attempts and mental distress. This male’s last known location was in the Auglaize/Mercer County area. The preliminary results of the investigation do not point to any foul play being suspected, but a final determination cannot be made until the results of the autopsy are known. The investigation into this matter continues.
