Last season, they fell short, this year they made sure history didn’t repeat itself.

For just the second team in school history, the New Bremen Cardinals volleyball – with aggressive serving and stellar net play – swept the Minster Wildcats, 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 to advance to a Division IV regionals.

The Cardinals were here before, losing in four sets to New Knoxville in last season’s district championship at Van Wert High School.

New Bremen took care of business this time as he Cardinals will play in a regional semifinal on Wednesday in Brookville against the winner of Fort Loramie and Cincinnati Miami Valley Christian Academy, who will play on Saturday.

Paige Jones led the way with kills for the Cardinals with 25 and Rachel Kremer had 12 kills along with seven kills from Julia Goettemoeller. Madison Pape had 41 assists and as a team the Cardinals had 13 aces.

It took a little bit for the Cardinals to warm up as the scoring went back and forth to start the match. With the score tied at nine-all, New Bremen started their offense.

The Cardinals gained the serve tied at 10-all and Macy Puthoff served three straight points. After an exchange of serves, Rachel Kremer served four straight points and the Cardinals finished off the first set 6-5 run for the 25-17 win.
