Carolyn Schultz Hudson, 85

January 23, 2013

Carolyn Schultz Hudson, 85, a lifelong resident of St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2013.

It would be difficult to live in St. Marys without knowing what a wonderful and kind person Carolyn was.

Born on July 20, 1927, Carolyn was the youngest of four children (Evelyn, Howard, Anna Louise and Carolyn) born to Vernon and Carrie Stroh Schultz.

A 1945 graduate of Memorial High School, she was known for her sweet personality and statuesque beauty. While standing on a street corner with friends, she caught the eye of young Thomas Hudson in 1947. They fell in love and were married June 20, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys and enjoyed 64.5 years of wedded bliss.

Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother to their son, Eric Hudson, who was born on  March 13, 1953. She was an active member of several clubs including the Progress Club, the Shakespeare Club, the Mother’s Club and several bridge clubs. She and Tom were “dub” golfers.

Recently, Carolyn and Tom relocated to Sparta, Mich., where they enjoyed retirement life and spending time with their granddaughter, Erin Hudson.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Thomas Allen Hudson; son Eric Hudson; daughter-in-law Anne Harrigan Hudson; granddaughter Erin Hudson and by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Carrie Stroh Schultz; her brother, Colonel Howard Schultz; and sisters Evelyn Schultz and Anna Louise Gossard.

Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, St. Marys, the Rev. Bill Maki, officiant.

Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Monday at the church.

The family requests that friends who wish to remember Carolyn with a memorial contribution consider making one to either Zion Lutheran Church or the St. Marys Community Foundation.

Condolences may be sent to Carolyn’s family via MillerFuneralHomes.net.

Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
