City Unveils Budget

July 16, 2013

ST. MARYS — City officials unveiled the preliminary 2014 budget during Monday night’s St. Marys Finance Committee meeting.

The proposed budget, which will not  be finalized until later this year, came in at $47.55 million — up slightly from the $45.70 million that was appropriated for 2013. To date, the city has incurred expenses of $20.6 million. The expenses were $40.24 million in 2010, $40.78 million in 2011 and $41.43 million in 2012.

Some big-ticket capital expenditure items include $400,000 for the demolition of the power plant, $910,000 for the 2014 street program and $200,000 for the construction of a paved walking path around K.C. Geiger Park.

City Engineer Craig Moeller called the street program aggressive for next year. The project includes the reconstruction of portions of Oakview Drive — which Moeller placed at approximately $400,000 to $500,000.

This year’s street program was scaled back because of the High Street bridge project.
