Clifford E. Thatcher, 56

Clifford E. Thatcher, 56, of New Bremen, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at his residence.  

He was born on Feb. 6, 1956, in Van Wert.  He was the son of Smilie “Bud” and Irene (Schuller) Thatcher.  His mother survives in Rockford.  

On Aug. 18, 1979, he married Karen A. Heitkamp who survives near New Bremen.  

Also surviving are his daughter Sara (Craig) Topp of New Bremen, his granddaughter Ella Topp, his brothers Robert (Phyllis) Thatcher of Rockford and Nathan (April) Thatcher of Ohio City and his sister Ranee (Steve) Leonard of Montezuma.  

His father preceded him in death.  

Cliff was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen.  He was a graduate of Mendon High School.  

He retired from Crown Equipment Corp. of New Bremen on Oct. 31, 2012, after 29 years of service.  He and his wife designed and built two new homes of their own.  

He enjoyed being outside and any type of carpentry work.  He said the love of his life was “our little family in our little world.”

A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating.  

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen.  

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Wednesday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and on Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.
