Deputies Probe Death

March 10, 2014

ST. MARYS — Deputies from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a rural St. Marys man.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office received a call of a male hanging from a bridge support in the 7000 block of Washington Pike. Deputies and detectives from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene and located a deceased male hanging upside down from the bridge with his leg caught in a guardrail support post.

The male subject was identified as Richard A. Moon III, 36, of St. Marys. His vehicle was found crashed approximately one-tenth of a mile east of the bridge. His body hanging from the bridge was not a direct result of that crash.

The body was removed and transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. The incident remains under investigation but there is no foul play suspected at this time.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Crime Scene Agents with BCI&I, New Knoxville and St. Marys Fire Departments and Auglaize County Coroner Thomas Freytag.
