Donald A. Smith, 80

Donald A. Smith, 80, of 277 Jack Oak Point Road, in St. Marys, died at 6:27 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on May 11, 1932, in Wayland, Ky., to Virgil and Rena (Slone) Smith, and his father preceded him in death. His mother survives him in Allen, Ky.

On Sept. 24, 1952, in Martin, Ky., he married Elsie Hall, who survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Dwayne (Sue) Smith of San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, Derrick (Lisa) Smith of Vandalia and Mark (Tami) Smith of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Dawn Houser, Craig Smith, Dylan Smith and Presley Smith; three great-grandchildren, Drew Houser, Morgan Houser and Reagan Smith; three brothers, David Smith of Langley, Ky., Dingus Smith of Allen, Ky., and Doug Smith of Allen, Ky.; a sister, Dolores Conn of Allen, Ky.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Smith and Dareld Smith.

He was a 1950 graduate of Martin, Ky., High School and also graduated in 1952 from Mayo State Vocational School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War.

He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St. Marys, where he worked as an electrical technician.

A member of Hillsdale Baptist Church in St. Marys, he had served as a teacher and superintendent of its Sunday School program.

His favorite pastimes included woodworking, traveling and genealogy.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), St. Marys. The services will be co-officiated by the Rev. Harold Liess and the Rev. John Dodds.

Burial, with graveside military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
