A pair of St. Marys Roughriders earned First Team All-Western Buckeye League honors for their work on the gridiron this fall.
Senior safety Jared Knous was named First Team All-WBL defense. Knous intercepted a WBL-best eight passes, led the Roughriders in tackles with 71, broke up ten passes, caused two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and blocked two extra point attempts.
St. Marys junior tight end Quinn Zaerr was named First Team All-WBL on offense. Zaerr caught 14 passes for a team-best 194 yards.
The Roughriders had a pair of seniors named Honorable Mention All-WBL in senior offensive tackle Mason Maze and senior defensive end Trent Wale. Wale had 15 tackles, two sacks, three quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 2013.
Wapakoneta swept the offensive player of the year awards. Wapakoneta fullback Zach Schmerge was named offensive back of the year. Wapakoneta’s Kyle Gonterman earned offensive lineman of the year award. Redskin placekicker Bailey Hinegardner was kicking specialist of the year.
Kenton took both of the defensive awards with senior Matt Bahr taking the defensive back of the year award and senior and Michigan commit Noah Furbush was named the defensive lineman of the year.
Wapakoneta had five players named First Team All-WBL on offense, including four of the five spots on the offensive line (center Kyle Gonterman, guards WilRankin and Wyatt Harrison and tackle Jake Pfenning). Schmerge was also a first teamer.
Wapak senior linebacker Isaac Kirby and junior defensive end Thomas Schoenlien were both First Teamers on defense.
Celina senior running back Louden Limon was a First Teamer on offense along with Celina defensive back Braelen Bader on defense.
