BATH — The New Knoxville girls basketball team knocked off a bit of rust in the first quarter, then sped by Elida in the fast lane in the second half.
The Rangers shot 78 percent from the floor in the second half to roar to a 60-38 win over the Bulldogs in the opening game of the Kewpee Tip Off Classic at Bath High School on Friday night.
New Knoxville shot 6 of 9 in the third quarter and then blistered the nets for a 8 of 9 performance in the fourth quarter to wrap up a second half in which they shot 14 of 18 (78 percent).
Elida led 14-7 in the first quarter before the Rangers went on an 11-0 run to grab control of the game.
New Knoxville advances to Saturday night's championship game against the winner of Findlay and Bath after the consolation game, which begins at 6 p.m. at Bath.
New Knoxville's Paige Lehman went 6 of 6 from the floor in the second half and scored a game-high 20 points to go with her team-high six rebounds.
Junior Meg Reineke buried all four of her second-half 3-point attempts to finish the contest with 14 points.
Senior point guard Haley Horstman began her senior season with a 10-point game.
Kylie Downton led Elida with 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting.
