Ralph W. Smith Jr., 83, of 1704 Fenway Court in St. Marys, died on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Lima.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1931 in Neptune, to Ralph and Nora (Rutledge) Smith Sr.
On Aug. 20, 1982, in Wapakoneta, he married Betty J. Jones, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Elaine (Ron) Hoskins of Findlay and Karen (Tim) Klosterman of Celina, a son, Dave (Diane) Smith of Celina, two stepdaughters, Lori (Kent) Taylor of Celina and Claudia Emrick of Lima, two stepsons, Scott Emrick of St. Marys and Johno Emrick of Chillicothe, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, numerous stepgreat-grandchildren, a sister, Margie (Merle) Brookhart of Celina and a brother, Joe Smith of Ladysmith, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a 1950 graduate of Rockford High School and attended Ohio Northern University.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served as a radio operator in the 3rd Strategic Support Squadron during the Korean Conflict.
Ralph was a retired production employee from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in St. Marys.
He was a member of American Legion Post 323 and Auglaize County Buzzard Baiters.
His favorite pastimes included flying radio-controlled airplanes and riding his motorcycle in the sunshine.
Services are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Ohio 703 West Chapel, in St. Marys, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating.
Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
