They only scored one goal, but with the defense they have, that was all the No. 6 state-ranked St. Marys Roughriders needed to remain unbeaten as keeper Luke Vondrell and the Riders' defense pitched a shutout against Elida in a 1-0 Western Buckeye League match.

After the Bulldogs’ attempt to score on St. Marys’ goal went out of bounds, Austin Wilker kicked the ball back into play, where Dylan Engel waited for it.

The senior and team leader in goals scored outran Elida defender Max Parker along the left goal box, squaring up in front of the left side of the net and launching the go-ahead goal at the 37:46 mark of the second half.

From there, the Riders defense made it an easy night for Vondrell, who only had to collect three saves on just five shots on goal from the Bulldogs.
