St. Marys, Celina Face Rematch In Sectional Pairings

After defeating their archrival in for the first time in 13 years, the St. Marys Roughriders will have to try to beat them again in a little more than two weeks later.

With the announcements of the sectional seedings for boys basketball coming Sunday afternoon, the biggest result is a rematch between St. Marys and Celina.

The two teams — who just played each other on Friday where the Roughriders broke a 12-game losing streak against the Bulldogs (4-15) with a 57-46 victory — will meet again at 7 p.m., Feb. 27 at Findlay High School in a Division II sectional semifinal in the Ohio Northern District.

During this school season, a Celina team has not beaten a St. Marys team in fall or winter sports, but two Celina programs — volleyball and girls soccer — have knocked off the Riders in postseason play.

No. 8 seeded St. Marys (7-12) will be looking for its first tournament win since the 2014-15 season.

The winner of that sectional on Feb. 27 will play top-ranked Wauseon in a sectional final at 6 p.m. on March 2 in Findlay.

In Division IV play, New Bremen (9-11) will play Perry (11-7) at 8 p.m. Feb. 27 at Bath High School in a sectional semifinal, with the winner playing No. 3 seeded Upper Scioto Valley (15-4) at 8 p.m., March 2 for a sectional championship.

In the other side of the Wapakoneta District bracket, New Knoxville (6-12) will play Allen East (4-15) in a sectional opener at 8 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Coldwater High School.

The winner of that game will play Minster (11-7) in a sectional final.

Marion Local (14-4) is the top team in the Wapakoneta District.
