St. Marys earned the sweep with a victory in the five-inning second game behind a strong performance on themound by starting pitcher Mason Gross. Gross allowed just one hit to Jefferson in the second game in a five-inning complete game shutout.  He struck out two and walked four.

St. Marys jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nate Vogel walked to start the inning, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and walked home on Tristan Becker’s RBI triple that made it 1-0.

St. Marys scored three of its runs after two men were out.

The lead extended to 3-0 in the third. St. Marys scored two runs on three hits, with all of it coming after the first two batters made outs. Zach Wilker followed with a single into shallow right to make it 3-0.

The final insurance run came in the fourth. Kyle Kiefer walked and came around to score on Vogel’s RBI triple into the right centerfield gap.

St. Marys won the extra-innings opener after the lead went back and forth throughout. The Riders emerged in the bottom of the eighth when Dirk Fenwick hit a hard chopper to third base that was mishandled, allowing  Marshall Lininger to scamper home for the walk-off win.
