Suspect Pocket Dials 911

February 6, 2013

SIDNEY — Law enforcement officials in Shelby County got an unlikely assist from a suspect Tuesday night.

Douglas J. Wolaver was arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after Shelby County Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary in progress at an unoccupied residence in the 500 block of Miami River Road in Sidney.

Investigators believe Wolaver pocket dialed 911 on his cell phone while allegedly breaking into the residence. The dispatcher was able to trace the call's location and alerted deputies there was an open line 911 call and that the person may need assistance.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered an open window and made entry into the residence. Deputies discovered Wolaver hiding inside the residence because his cell phone was beeping because of a low battery.

Wolaver was charged with breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony.
