Tuesday Area Baseball and Softball Round-Up

DEFIANCE — Weston Rivers earned his fifth win of the season on the mound for Defiance and the Bulldogs scored six runs in the first two innings in a 7-1 win over  the St. Marys baseball team on Tuesday.

 Codie Deaton pitched and took the loss for the Roughriders.

St. Marys fell to 2-11 while Defiance kept its years long winning streak in the WBL going and went to 16-0 on the season.

NEW BREMEN 4, MARION LOCAL 0

MARION LOCAL — New Bremen’s Clay Bertke and Trevor Kitzmiller combined on a one-hit shutout and the Cardinals earned a 4-0 win over Marion Local.

Bertke went the first five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine while working around seven walks. Kitzmiller came on in the sixth and worked a scoreless inning and a third with two strikeouts.

New Bremen’s Luke Schwieterman went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI.

Morgen Sindelar dobuled for the Cardinals.

New Bremen improved to 5-12 and 2-2 in the MAC. The Cardinals host Minster tonight at 5 p.m.


FORT RECOVERY 6, NEW KNOXVILLE 5: New Knoxville came back from an early 4-0 deficit to make things interesting, but Fort Recovery held off the Rangers 6-5 in a MAC contest on Tuesday.

New Knoxville cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the fourth inning. Shane Topp reached on an error and Wes Meyer doubled. Cody Shanw walked to load the bases, setting up KV Mooney, who went 3-for-3, for an RBI single. Adam Howe followed with a two-run single.

After Fort Recovery added two more runs in the fifth, New Knoxville picked up a run in the fifth. After a leadoff walk to Spencer Wolf, Shane Topp drove him in.

New Knoxville scored again in the sixth with singles by Mooney, Howe and Jake Allen.

Southpaw Adam Howe went the distance on the mound for the Rangers.

SOFTBALL

DEFIANCE 13, ST. MARYS 0: Things were rolling along good for the St. Marys Roughriders softball team Tuesday evening until the fourth inning. Despite having two outs the Defiance Bulldogs scored 10 runs and added three more runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Riders 13-0 in five innings at K. C. Geiger Park. Defiance added three more runs in the fifth inning for the 13-0 final. The Riders will entertain Elida on Thursday in a WBL game and travel to Wapakoneta on Friday.


FORT LORAMIE 3, NEW BREMEN 2: Elizabeth Barhorst’s two-run, two-out double in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference for Fort Loramie in a 3-2 win over New Bremen on Tuesday. Kristin Sprague threw a complete game for New Bremen, striking out six and giving up two earned runs over six innings on three hits. Caitlyn Everhart doubled three times in a 3-for-4 night. Samantha Luedeke doubled. Julie Brown singled twice for the Cardinals. Paige Ordean struck out 13 in the pitcher’s circle for Fort Loramie, scattering seven hits over seven innings.
