OTTAWA — The St. Marys boys cross country team finished in fifth at the Ottawa-Glandorf Blue and Gold Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Roughriders boys scored 198 points in the Blue Division race with 198 points. Van Wert won with 64 points. O-G took fourth with 171 points. Wapakoneta was 11th with 251 points.
St. Marys junior Nick Durkee paced the Roughriders with a 17th-place finish and a 17:26 time, a personal record.
St. Marys’ Alex Mielke finished 35th (18:07), John Meier took 47th (18:26, PR), Anthony Tenney was 52nd (18:38, PR) and Ryan Tousley took 53rd (18:41, PR).
Also running personal records for the Roughriders were Luke Grieshop (19:48), Matt Shroyer (21:27), Daniel Miller (22:17), Dalton Murphy (22:17), Dylan Brown (23:47), Zach Wilson (24:29), Morgan Fenwick (25:38) and Zach Huff (25:46).
In the Gold Division boys race, New Knoxville finished 14th with 355 points. St. Henry won the race with 38 points. Spencerville was 11th with 295 points and Waynesfield-Goshen finished 17th with 530 points.
New Knoxville sophomore Isaac Kuntz turned in a fifth-place finish for the Rangers with a 17:10 time.
Cameron Beckett took 79th (19:42), Jake Allen ran a 20:05, Ryan Allen ran a 20:39, Parker Stone had a 20:49, P.J. Kiernan ran a 21:12, Spencer Wolf ran a 21:26 and Lewis Mackie had a 22:12 time.
The St. Marys girls cross country team finished 13th in the girls Blue Division race at O-G on Saturday.
The Roughriders finished with 316 points in the 17-team event. Wapakoneta took eighth with 255 points. Napoleon won with 28 points.
St. Marys freshman Hannah Tobin paced the Riders with a 40th-place finish and a personal best 22:03 time.
Christine Sullivan ran a PR with a 23:04, Sarah Wilker turned in a PR 23:24 time, Marissa Schrolucke ran a 23:55, Jessica Jeffries finished with a PR 24:02, Devin Coil ran a PR 26:19, Carol Saunders ran a PR 26:30, Alicia Fledderjohann ran the course in a 26:41, Melanie Howell ran a PR 28:04, Jenny Briggs ran a 28:16, Shaunna Cartwright ran a PR 28:33, Lauren Hurlburt ran a PR 29:59 and Katilin Murphy finished in 36:47, a personal record.
New Knoxville’s Clara Shroyer finished ninth overall in the girls Gold Division race, finishing with a 21:21 time.
The Rangers’ Tiana Heidt ran a 25:30, Jesse Settlage had a 28:35 time and Gabbi Kuck ran a 31:55.
Spencerville won the Gold Division race with 51 points. Kacie Mulholland finished fifth overall to pace the Bearcats.
Cross Country: Minster boys 2nd at Eaton Invitational
EATON — The Minster boys cross country team finished second at the Eaton Invitational on Saturday morning with 84 points — seven points behind first-place Russia in the section two race.
Botkins ran ninth with 207 points.
Minster’s Francis Slonkosky finished second overall with a 16:27 time.
Eric Dahlinghaus took seventh with a 16:55 time, Andrew Fausey was 13th (17:32), Dominic Slonkosky took 19th (17:51), Ted Trzaska finished 51st (18:58) and Christian Boehlein ran a 19:38.
Tri-Village’s Clayton Murphy won the race with a 16:01 time.
Botkins’ Roger Miller took 20th with a 17:52 time.
New Bremen Boys 10th, Girls 11th at Alliance CC Invite
CLAYTON — The New Bremen girls cross country team finished 11th at the eighth annual Alliance Cross Country Invitational at Clayton on Saturday morning.
The Cardinals finished with 312 points.
Kettering Alter won with 51 points. Fort Loramie finished fifth with 133 points.
A pair of freshmen led the Cardinals. Veronica Hirschfeld took 38th overall with a 21:52 time. Ashley Berning took 55th with a 22:42 time.
Jill Rhoades ran a 24:27, Elaynne Speckman ran a 24:30, Jenna Ahlers ran a 24:42, Kyleigh Suchland ran a 24:56 and Shelby Paul ran a 24:58.
Meg Westerheide paced fifth-place Fort Loramie with a four-place finish and 19:29 time. Tara Luebke was 18th overall (20:40), Selene Waters was 20th (20:42) and Sarah Puthoff was 41st (22:09).
New Bremen finished 10th in the boys race with 242 points.
New Bremen senior Derek Bornhorst finished 12th overall with a 17:23 time.
Drew McClurg, a sophomore, took 48th with an 18:29 time, Brent Bertke ran an 18:38, Jacob Rutschilling ran an 18:52, Jared Kremer turned in a 19:02, Eric Smart ran a 19:12 and Evan Zircher ran a 19:54.
Fort Loramie took ninth with 206 points. Ben Barhorst led the way for the Redskins with a seventh-place finish and a 17:06 time. Jacob Siegel was 10th (17:17) and Austin Luebke was 35th (18:02).
Oakwood won the race with 47 points.
St. Marys 3, LCC 1
LIMA — The St. Marys boys soccer team got a pair of goals from Zach Wilker and a goal from Brennan Brown to snap a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Lima Central Catholic on Saturday afternoon.
St. Marys’ Luke Leffel stopped five shots on goal.
LCC’s Travis Clark had the Thunderbirds’ lone goal.
St. Marys improved to 6-2, bouncing back from back-to-back losses to Botkins and Bath.
St. Marys travels to rival Celina tonight, with the JV match starting at 5 p.m.
Marion Local 3, Huron 0
MARIA STEIN — The Marion Local volleyball team improved to 6-1 with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 victory over Huron on Saturday.
Josie Winner led the Flyers with eight kills and three service aces. Margaret Wuebker added seven kills and three blocks. Claire Heitkamp had six kills and two blocks. Gina Kramer added five kills. Hannah Arling had 20 assists. Laura Schwieterman had eight assists and two aces. Megan Wendel added 14 digs.
