Diamonds To See Facelife

ST. MARYS — Some of the diamonds at K.C. Geiger Park are slated to get a facelift in the coming years.

During Monday night's St. Marys Parks and Playgrounds Committee meeting, City Engineer Craig Moeller briefed committee members on some of the work being done at the park. Moeller said crews started working on improving diamond No. 7 shortly after the fall season. However, wet weather has forced the postponement of any further work until the field dries.

Collections Edge Up

ST. MARYS — The city of St. Marys is slowly closing in on last year’s income tax collection rates.

For the month of September, the city collected $472,787.83 — up from the $415,112.71 it collected in 2013. Those figures dwarfed the $246,858.04 and $342,438.93 the city collected in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

CRIDERSVILLE — A juvenile was flown via medical helicopter to a Columbus hospital following a collision Saturday night.

According to a report from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at approximately 9:05 p.m. Saturday, a driver was traveling south on County Road 25A, just north of National Road, in a 2004 Chevy Malibu when the vehicle struck a juvenile pedestrian who was walking near or on the road with two other juveniles.

ST. MARYS — As a fourth or fifth grader, Dylan Brown says he remembers watching another school’s drum major perform on the football field one night.

He wasn’t particularly interested in music, but watching that student perform his routine with the baton sparked Brown’s interest.

 “It looked like a lot of fun,” he said. “It was entertaining. It looked like something I might want to do.”

Cisco Visits Rotary

ST. MARYS — One of St. Marys’ native sons returned home on Wednesday to hand out the award that bears his name for the 50th time.

Galen Cisco regaled members of the St. Marys Rotary Club with tales of his playing days as well as the current status of baseball. Cisco was in town to hand out his annual award, which went to Henry Spencer of the Reds. The award was voted on by fellow players.
