NEW KNOXVILLE — An early morning fire on Sunday destroyed a home along Country Road 33A.
New Knoxville Fire Chief Scott Schroer said his department received a call shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday to respond to a fire at a residence located at 06833 County Road 33A, between Howell and Glynwood/New Knoxville roads. When crews arrived, the fire had spread to much of the structure.
“The second story and roof were engulfed,” Schroer said. “The house was a total loss.”
No one was home at the time of the fire. Schroer said a neighbor and nine other people called 911 to report the blaze.
“Dispatch was getting overwhelmed with calls,” Schroer said. “I think the fire got a pretty good head start before we arrived. The wind was out of the south and it would have been hard to detect until it really broke loose.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and there was no dollar amount on the loss as of press time. Schroer said the Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
“The good thing is that no one got hurt,” Schroer said. “You can always replace a building.”
St. Marys Township Fire and the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the scene.
