Leland “Woody” Mobley, 67, of 124 Dickman Drive, St. Marys, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1946, in Fonda, Ky., the son of John and Dallas (Reed) Mobley.
He married Shirlene Bailey on July 16, 1965, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his four children, Lisa Mobley and Rick Steele of Geneva, Fla.; Danny Mobley of St. Marys; Lonnie Mobley of Celina and Sheila Prater of Wapakoneta; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey (JoLou) Mobley of St. Marys and Wendell (Vivian) Mobley of St. Marys; and by a sister, Wilma Pruitt of St. Marys.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Marie Dotson and Joyce Steele.
He retired from Shelley Asphalt Company in Lima and was a member of Union Local 329.
He was also a race car driver, having driven for many years at Eldora Raceway. He also enjoyed watching races and playing with his grandchildren.
He was a very helpful, kind friend who was always willing to lend his backhoe operating skills or plow snow for those in need. He attended New Start Church of God in Celina.
Funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, with his nephew, the Rev. John Mobley, officiant.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to New Start Church of God.
Woody’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and physicians at Grand Lake Hospice, and to Woody’s daughters and granddaughters for making his last days comfortable.
