OHSAA announces new football divisional assignments

With the addition of a seventh football division in 2013, the OHSAA released the breakdown of the 2013 football divisions on Thursday.

St. Marys will remain in Division III with its 293 boys. Both Minster (117 boys) and New Bremen (113 boys) will remain Division VI schools. Wapakoneta and Celina move down a division to DIII. Wapak has 343 boys and Celina has 327 boys Other WBL assignments include Kenton dropping to Divison IV. O-G stays in Division V. Shawnee, Elida and Defiance remain in Division III. Bath stays in Division IV.

St. Marys' Heitkamp takes 7th in D2 girls pole vault

COLUMBUS — St. Marys Memorial senior Kelly Heitkamp made this year’s journey to state in the pole vault a business trip.  Heitkamp closed the deal with a finish five places better and a foot higher than last year’s trip.

Heitkamp cleared 10 feet, six inches and wrapped up her record-setting senior season with a seventh-place finish in the Division II girls pole vault on Saturday morning at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Minster boys finish 4th at D3 state track meet

COLUMBUS — Minster junior relay runner Paul Dues stood just outside the wrought-iron gate at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium when a fan wearing a shirt from another part of the Ohio slapped the junior on the back, congratulated him and  told Dues he had run the 1600 meter relay race for Minster years ago.
