3 Riders Named to All-WBL, NW District Teams

St. Marys Trey Fisher was named to the All-Northwest District team in his first full season at the varsity level.

Three St. Marys Roughriders were named to both the All-Western Buckeye League baseball and the Division II All-Northwest Districts teams, which were announced Sunday night and Monday morning.

Earning honors on the All-WBL team was Austin Wilker, who was named to the league’s second-team, followed by Henry Spencer as a third-team selection and Ty Howell, who was named as an honorable mention player.

Wapakoneta had two players named to the WBL’s Co-Player of the Year in Don Goodes and Manny Vorhees, while Jason Brandt of Wapakoneta earned Coach of the Year honors. Wilker batted .356 in 20 games, with eight runs scored and tied for the team-high with 10 RBIs.

He racked up a slugging percentage of .458. Henry pitched 33 and two-thirds of an inning on the season with a 2-1 record in six games started, one save and a team-best ERA of 1.87. In his first varsity season, Howell led the team with a .365 batting average with at least 10 at-bats, scoring a team-high 12 times, 10 RBIs and a .444 slugging percentage.

Wilker and Spencer were also named to the All-Northwest District teams, Wilker earning second-team recognition as an outfielder and Spencer to honorable mention as a pitcher and Trey Fisher was named honorable mention as a catcher.

Fisher completed his first full year at the varsity level, where the sophomore batted .311 in 20 games, with seven runs scored, five RBIs and a slugging percentage of .344.

The Roughriders ended the 2018 season at 7-13 overall and 4-5 in the WBL. They won their first tournament game since 2014 against Napoleon two weeks ago.
