5 Roughriders Named To All-WBL Teams

Five St. Marys Roughriders were named to the All-Western Buckeye League team, which was announced Monday, in girls and boys basketball.

For the Roughriders girls team, senior Makenna Mele led the way with second-team honors, while fellow senior Sydney Cisco was named third-team.
Sophomore Lauren Cisco was named to the league’s Honorable Mention.

For the St. Marys boys team, Austin Wilker earned third-team recognition, while Braeden Dunlap was named Honorable Mention.

Prior to their game on Saturday against Bath, Mele has shot 41 percent from the floor (110-of-264), grabbing a team-high 168 rebounds all while leading the team in scoring with 13.4 points per game.

Sydney Cisco shot 35 percent from the floor (87-of-248) and 33 percent from 3-point range (58-of-174). From the free throw line, Cisco shot 78 percent (66-of-84) with 78 boards, 56 assists and 75 steals.

She is averaging 12.8 ppg.

Lauren Cisco is second on the team in steals with 53, while grabbing 71 boards and averaging 7.3 ppg.

Ottawa-Glandorf swept the Player of the Year honors, with Kadie Hempfling earning the honor for the girls and Jay Kaufman grabbing POY for the boys coming off a torn ACL injury.
The Roughriders girls team will play against Defiance in a Division II district semifinal on Thursday at Paulding High School, while the boys team will play Celina in the boys sectional opener on Tuesday at Findlay High School.
