Cherl Durie Russell, 65

Cherl Durie Russell, 65, of 1107 Parkway Drive, St. Marys, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, following a brief illness.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1947, in Van Wert, the daughter of Billy and Florence (Vermilya) Agler.

She married  Harvey Russell on June 29, 1964, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2009.

She is survived by her five children, Kimmy (Jeff) Valente of Cuyahoga Falls, William (Dixie) Russell of St. Marys, Mandi (Todd) Shroyer  of New Knoxville, Veronica (Richard) Block  of St. Marys and John (Karla) Russell of Montezuma; by a very close nephew and niece, Greg (Kim) Geiger of St. Marys; by grandchildren Allison and Alex of Cuyahoga Falls, Jessica, Zach, and Gage of St. Marys, Clara and Josh of New Knoxville, Brandon, Page and Colin of St. Marys and Cearra, Trista and Michael of Montezuma; by six great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Evelyn (David) Miller of St. Marys and Melodie Rider of Jonestown; by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Schneider of Minster; by grand-nephews Adam and Matt; by a grand-niece, Danielle.

Cherl attended Ohio City Liberty High School. She had been employed at the former Hayes-Albion Corporation and the Medical Pool Home Heath Care Company; she worked in the office of Dr. Vic Von Blon for many years, as well.

She enjoyed watching NASCAR, football, baseball, camping and going to Tennessee. She loved being with her family more than anything. She was a past president of the Auglaize County Civil Defense Group and a member of the Buckeye Emergency Team; she enjoyed chatting with her many friends on the CB radio over the years.

Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Charles Richtmyer, officiant.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Cherl’s family to help defray medical expenses.
