The New Bremen Cardinal basketball team wasted little time Friday night as they opened the basketball season with a 65-30 victory over the Indian Lake Lakers in a non-conference game.

The Cardinals got out quick with the first six points of the game, including two baskets from Debbie Paul and Paige Jones with a trey of her own. New Bremen proceeded to run off the last 15 points of the quarter to grab a commanding lead, 22-3.

In the second quarter, the Lakers got a couple of 3-point opportunities, but couldn’t connect, while New Bremen started the scoring with a basket by Jones.

Throughout the game the Cardinals moved the ball on offense and moved their feet on defense outscoring the Lakers 15-4 the rest of the half to lead 43-12 at halftime.

The third quarter was the only quarter won by Indian Lake as they outscored the Cardinals 11-9, but New Bremen bounced back to end the game with a 17-7 run for the 65-30 victory.

Jones led all scorers with 17 points followed by Paul with nine points. Everybody on the varsity roster scored for the Cardinals.

In other basketball news in the Midwest Athletic Conference, the New Knoxville Rangers girls basketball team participated in the Kewpee Classic Tip-Off at Bath High School Friday night.

The Rangers won their lone match of the night, a 37-24 win over Elida.

Kenzie Schroer scored a game-high 17 points. Abby Lageman added six points and Rachel Leffel tallied five points. The Rangers will play Bath after it defeated Findlay Friday night.

That game - the Kewpee Classic Championship is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
