Don’t underestimate a freshman, especially if she is from Minster.

Minster’s freshman runner Madeline Magoto, who has also competed in two other events today, finished third place with a time of 2:15.33, just .20 hundredths of a second behind the second-place finisher, in the girls 800-meter run on Saturday at the state track and field meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Magoto was also a part of the Minster 4x400-meter relay, which just finished third place despite having a first-place lead with less than 100 meters to go.

The quartet of Magoto, Cassie Francis, Margaret Meiring and Julia Slonkosky finished with a time of 3:58.12, beating their prelim time from Friday by almost two seconds.

Minster’s quartet of Jenna Collins, Katie Wuebker, Jordyn Heitbrink and Paige Thobe finished the 4x200-meter relay by a close second with a time of 1:45.05.

The quartet of St. Thomas Aquinas, now becoming a rival in track and field, pulled out for the top finish, defeating Minster by .23 hundredths of a second.

Minster’s third relay team of Collins, Mya Francis, Thobe and Wuebker finished seventh in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.24.

Kaitlynn Albers finished 13th in the girls 1600-meter run and Kaci Bornhorst took 10th in the two-mile (11:32.75).
