Nearly a week into the fall season, and the first day of October did not show kind weather to the St. Marys varsity boys golf team as they finished 10th in the boys Division II sectional golf round Thursday at Country Aces Golf Course in Kalida.

On a windy and somewhat cold morning and afternoon, the Roughriders managed a 401 score, best for 10th place at the sectional tournament.

The top three schools advanced to the district round.

“It was brutal out there, really windy,” said Roughriders coach Paul Carmean. “It was 20, 30-mile an hour winds so it was tough. I am glad I didn’t have to play in it.”

The top three teams to make it to district were all from the Western Buckeye League. Shawnee shot a 336, best for first place at sectionals, Kenton was second with a 340, and Bath was third with a 347.

Austin Cook led the Roughriders with a score 88 on the day and Jake Hollman shot a 92 Thursday.

Josh Wingett carded a 102, Nathan Kuffner recorded a 119 and Zach Michael ended with a 124 to round out the scoring for the Roughriders.
